How Did You Enjoy The Worship?
Some have mistakenly focused on the personal enjoyment or blessing derived from worship. It wasn’t but a century ago, the question being asked after a sermon, ‘How did you get on under the Word?’ Now we ask, “Did you enjoy the worship?” (i.e. the rest of the service apart from the sermon).
If we are not careful, worship can be rated according to our degree of enjoyment. Worship is not a part of the ‘entertainment industry’.
Let us not confuse what is CENTRAL with the BY-PRODUCT.
Worship is to give to God (Matthew 5:23-24). Let’s not be like those Isaiah the prophet described, “These people draw near to me with their words and honor me with their lip service, but they remove their hearts far from me…” (Isaiah 29:13).
Perhaps it’s time to change the way we think and talk about worship!
